When it comes to coronavirus death, race matters
In New York City, the epicenter of the country's pandemic, black and Latino deaths were about twice as high as the population, according to an article titled "Race when It Comes to Coronavirus Deaths."In Chicago, the gap is even wider: blacks account for 70 per cent of coronavirus deaths but about 30 per cent of the city's population.
In early April, before Wisconsin went to the polls in person, about 80 percent of the coronavirus deaths in Milwaukee were black, even though the city's black share of the population was only 25 percent.
Since then, seven more cases of coronavirus have been linked to polling on election day, but the full impact of the spread of the virus is not yet known.
The statistics have shocked many, but not environmental justice experts and advocates.
