My fellow readers, I have a question for you to think about. What's about being Canadian? Or what's a Canadian way?
I have a few thoughts you may not necessarily agree with but I like to bring them up and share with you. Hopefully at least you can seriously think about this question.
For me it is not about eating hamburgs, speaking no accent English, drinking coffee, celebrating Christmas, having ice water, watching hockey...
Being a proud Canadian, you should be confident about yourself and proud of your own cultural heritage. Most of Canadians are immigrants except these first nation peoples. Canadians always take pride in their ethnic cultural heritages. The primary difference between Canadians and Chinese is self confidence in essence. Many HK Chinese show a sense of inferiority or lack of confidence when facing with white people because of their dismal colonial history and yet they are proud of knowing more about the western culture than mainland Chinese. Still they are not quite Canadian even though they have a Canadian passport.
Canadian culture is built on and colonial past and multiculturalism today. It is important to learn the cultures of others and share your own to gain understanding and respect in this country. Regardless of from mainland, HK, or TW, we are all Chinese. When we speak or do things, we represent Chinese community. And please change your mindset, you are not the majority race anymore. We are a minority and should support each other more often.
